30.3.23 – 24.9.23opening: 29 March 2023, 7:00 pm
The history of the Gugging Artists and their art is intimately interwoven with that of other artists, who have often found themselves inspired in various ways that have affected their own work. The House of Artists served as a source of inspiration for David Bowie, who visited the Gugging Artists in preparation for his album 1. Outside and took the ambience of his visit with him into the studio. The photographer Christine de Grancy captured him interacting with August Walla, Oswald Tschirtner and Johann Garber. Austrian writer Gerhard Roth has immortalized the Gugging Artists in his literary as well as his photographic work. The exhibition also presents the work of visual artists Arnulf Rainer, Peter Pongratz and Johann Rausch as well as Scottish fashion designer Christopher Kane. These artists’ works are shown in conjunction with the pieces that inspired them.
