karl vondal.! erotic
07.09.2017-07.01.2018Karl Vondal’s approach to the erotic is very direct—wholly in contrast to his drawings’ delicate lines. His preferred motif is a couple making love, which the artists portrays in this activity unabashedly. These explicit depictions are supplemented by remarkable, often sensitive texts, written by the artist on the drawing. Whole short stories fill the multiply glued-together sheets, which may extend for several meters. Rolled up, folded, and torn—that is how Vondal frequently carries his works from the House of Artists to the atelier building, whatever the weather. This production history is evident in the pieces and is integral to the artwork. Karl Vondal has lived in the House of Artists in Gugging for more than a decade; his works are presented internationally and are an enrichment to many collections.
A catalog was also dedicated to Karl Vondal and to Johann Garber, likewise presented in this double exhibition. Nina Ansperger and Maria Höger were its co-editors.
