Erich Zittra
1915 – 1980Erich Zittra, a representative of the first generation of Gugging Artists, drew buildings, churches and animals. Rabbits were the artist's favorite motif. Zittra did not discover artistic expression for himself until late in life, after being encouraged to do so by Leo Navratil, the discoverer and patron of the Gugging Artists. The vertical line forms the characteristic element of design in his drawings. He used colored pencils to draw over the motifs that he initially placed on the paper with a pencil. This resulted in dense, often colorful and almost nonrepresentational works.
